Deadline Approaches for
Goodyear Grant services

UNION CITY—The Tennessee Career Center for Goodyear, located at 204 S. 2^nd St., Union City, TN  is asking all eligible workers affected by the Goodyear closure to contact the Career Center before March 30, 2012 in order to register for services under the National Emergency Grant.  In November 2011, a National Emergency Grant in the amount of $3,448,259 was awarded to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development to serve about 850 of the 1,983 total workers affected by the closure of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.  Grant funds are being used to assist the dislocated workers and eligible family members with reemployment services and skills training. 

Connie Stewart, Director of the Tennessee Career Center for Goodyear, states “The March 30^th deadline is the last day that affected workers, spouses, and dependents (18 years or older and living in the same household) can register for services through the National Emergency Grant.  While we have had over 800 people enrolled, there are still opportunities available for others seeking Career Center services.  It is crucial that anyone interested in taking advantage of grant funds register with the Career Center prior to March 30, 2012.” 

Services offered through the Tennessee Career Center for Goodyear include reemployment workshops covering resume writing, interviewing skills and completing an application; career exploration assessments; tuition assistance; transportation stipends, and on-the-job training opportunities. 

The Tennessee Career Center is Where People and Jobs Connect.  The Goodyear Career Center is located at 204 South 2^nd Street, in Union City, TN.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  For more information on how to enroll for services through the National Emergency Grant, contact a Career Advisor at 731-884-3868.

FREE Education & Training Opportunities

Please bring your Driver License, Social Security Card, and Clock Card with you when you attend a workshop. Workshops are held at the Tennessee Career Center for Goodyear. Seating is limited so please register by contacting a WIA Career Advisor at your local Tennessee Career Center. You can also contact them by email.

Workshops include WIA Orientation, Career Assessment, KeyTrain, and Winning Resumes.
