Serving the following counties:
Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Lake, Lauderdale, Obion, and Tipton
The Tennessee Career Centers and the Northwest Tennessee
Workforce Board are introducing the Summer Works internship program.
The Summer Works program is made possible by the stimulus package -
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Funding is available to engage economically disadvantaged young adults ages 16 to 24 in summer internships in private industry and business and through non-profit organizations in Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Lake, Lauderdale, Obion, and Tipton Counties. The goal of the Summer Works program is to teach our future workforce job readiness skills, work ethic, and the soft skills necessary for success in the workplace.
The internships will enable young adults to have a job, gain valuable work experience, earn a wage, and reinvest those wages back into the local economy.
The Northwest Tennessee Workforce Board is seeking worksites for eligible interns. Private businesses and non-profit organizations may request young adults for internships. The internships will be six weeks in duration beginning June 8 and interns will work 32 hours per week. The interns will receive payment for their wages through the Northwest Tennessee Workforce Board and no cost will be incurred by the worksite.
For youth interested in an internship, information will be posted as soon as it is available.
